I feel that I am at a constant state of chaos and it is starting to take a toll. For example, I woke up at 2:30AM and have not been able to fall back asleep due to my mind going all over the place. It's now 4:30 so I decided to get up and basically start my day.

I have always been that "go to" girl in several areas in my life with work, friends and other random stuff and have always loved it. I love helping people, creating solutions and new paths for myself and getting things done or scratched off the list. I have always had trouble saying NO when others ask for assistance. I guess I just need to figure out how to balance everything and manage my time more efficiently but HOW!??

I have been at my current job for just over a year and recently have been questioning my happiness there.....the significance of touch changing the lives of others through my staff. I often question my ability as a leader to my therapists and front desk staff and how that effects the over all smooth operations of the massage clinic. I often wonder if I am at the right place since I have all these questions and rely on others performance to reflect my overall performance in my owners eyes. I guess I am questioning my decision on going to corporate massage.....it just seems like sales, numbers and appointments is constantly hovering over my head and that is not the reason I got into bodywork.....so do I really want to continue down this path or swim upstream against the current with the rest of the therapist out there.

I just wish there was more time in the day. More time for relaxing, family, training, etc. I surround myself with really ambitious people who seems to have every thing mapped out and organized and I wonder how do they do it? How do they work full time, train for hours a day, organize events and still make dinner for the family and not have their spouse feel neglected. Surely they are cloned or either have some sort of magic potion they are not sharing with me!

I guess that's it for now.....since I am up I can use this time to catch up on my friend's blogs:)

My quads hurt

So here i am....at work with a bit of time to recap my last weeks. I was sick.....really sick and unfortunately the worst of it fell on the day of Toddfest. Well, it went off without a hitch anyway. The bands rocked, Boomerz rules and everyone had a great time....especially Matthew who ripped his pants at the after hours party at our place while doing his version of the Thriller dance....I will post that to the blog once I get home.

I pretty much took it easy the rest of the week to recover enough for a long run on Saturday. Sat morning was an early one meeting with my group at 5:30 for a 16 miler. I can't believe that I actually finished. It was most likely the worst run of my life. it was slow, hot and I would have hacking fits every 5 miles or so. I probably should have not run but I was really glad that I did and that I finished despite how long it took. I pretty much decided on Saturday to never take another extreme amount of time off from training as I have over the past year.......it sucks getting back in the saddle.

So after my run I hit the gym to shower and went straight to work....BOO!!! but after work we headed down to Houston to catch the Candlebox show:) Let me just say.....WOWZA. The show was amazing, the sound was really nice at the venue. The Warehouse is downtown but the MinuteMaid park, which I have also not been to yet. The show was not sold out which made for plenty of room for the crowd and we were able to get fairly close to the stage. The opening band was really good too, which made for a really nice evening. The dinner and big ass $11 margaritas at Cyclone Anaya's didn't suck either.

Okay.....gotta answer the phone and get back to work.....OUT~~

In case you can't find me......

In case you can't find me at home, work or the trails you might wanna check the Flying Saucer in the triangle. Let me just tell you.....THIS PLACE ROCKS!!! The food is great and they have 70 beers on tap and a list a mile long in bottles. So what does this mean? I really have to step up the training to afford these 200 beers that I must enjoy. I am a flake blogger. I get so wrapped up in day to day stuff that I just don't have the energy to sit and type out what has been happening in my life so her is a short recap.

Todd and I joined a co-ed kickball team a couple months back. We met our friends every Thursday to get our asses handed to us BUT we had a blast! It was probably the most fun I have had in a long time....just hangin with Todd and friends, having a few beers then heading to a bar to chill after. It was really great times. We actually did win one game and tied the team that won the season last year so over it was great. The last team we played was tons of fun too even though they totally smoked us. Thanks to all my fellow "Where's my Pitches At" teammates for making the past couple months a hoot!

With that said you probably figured that I have NOT been training. I had great intentions at the beginning of March to get back in the saddle and improve my cycling but it jut didn't happen. Working Saturdays really sucks sometimes because that is when groups typically ride and such. My job has been really demanding and unfortunately has forced me to put my training on the back burner.....until now.

After several lazy months, tons of beer,no-so-good-for-you food and 10(yes,TEN) pounds I have decided NOW is time to get motivated. I was stuck in a rut and I think that with the summer here I finally have shaken the laziness off. I mentioned to my friend and coach that I was tossing around the idea of the San Antonio Marathon. I was out there at the Austin Martha ton with Todd cheering folks on @ the 25 mile marker. Todd's band, The Humiliators played ALL morning to the runner and it made me sorta wish I was out there pounding the pavement. Once I heard that it was gonna be a Rock and Roll I decided I was in for the torture. I took last year off and have not really done much since. I figured after the year off it was time to dust off the running shoes and get back to business. I have not trained for my OWE marathon since 2002 since I have been coaching with Austin Fit so I think I am...no I AM training for the FULL......YIKES! Okay now it's out there in cyberspace so GAME ON!!!

To launch my new found energy and determination I decided to go to the man who kicked my ass into shape a couple years ago, Jeremy Thiel with CrossFit Central. He has a new early morning 5:45AM runner's specific camp so I figured this would help jump my training for the marathon which starts this coming weekend. I am half way down with week 2 and i can finally start to move my legs again. Last Thursday was rough. I had not been that sore in forever but it was a good pain.....you know the one all you fellow FOMOs:) So if CrossFit is not enough I also enrolled in the 8 week 300 Challenge. the challenge is basically a way to hold my self accountable with a coach for my workouts and diet....which we all know I need help on!......mm queso and beer....my 2 weakness. I did the launch assessment and workout last night. BRUTAL!!!! So much so that I puked on my way home at he 2222 & Mopac light. NICE! I think I just guzzled a bit too much water right after stopping. Here is a clip of the workout.....

I completed everything in 17:17 and I was happy just to finish it all since the max time was 20 minutes. We will be tested again in 8 weeks to see our improvement.

Other than that I have been SUPER busy at work with the opening of a new clinic, cleaning house from dead weight employees and hiring new ones......FUN. My best friend had a baby....WELCOME DEREK SCOTT!!! <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_8tWXcbubaVo/SE_ReA4VOuI/AAAAAAAAA_o/ZzAKXY7luTY/s320/Derek+2008-06-02.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5210613607453506274" />

Okay....that's all my brain can take right now....gotta get ready for work!!

2 Dogs 2,000 Miles Trailer

please donate to his journey!!

you know you need help........

when you are working out......

take off your jacket between sets........

and about 20 Reeses Pieces fall out of your pocket that you left there from yesterday at work.

that is what happen this morning at bootcamp!!! To quote one of my all time favorite movies, Shawshank Redemption, "Get busy living, get busy dying". I have been really busy just doing stuff.

I find that on my off days the last thing I wanna do is sit in front of a computer blogging. Perhaps if I had a laptop that would be different. But I dont so that means I have to sit at home and type away when i much rather be outside or doing something else. Second, I really do not lead that exciting of a life to blog. I am not trainging for anything, have not amazing vacation stories to share.....I dont know I guess I am just in a slump so sue me.

okay....off my chest so I am off to the grocery store then to have a beer since it's St. Patty's Day.

Bootcamp weekend.....DONE!

So if you did not I have been a complete slug the past several month. I seriously think the last time I actually rode my bike was last August. I have picked up a few short runs with the dogs hear and there but over all.......zip, nada, nothing.......until this weekend.

I think that cheering my husband and friends on for the 3M and the Austin Marathon sort of put the fire back under my butt. It was a bittersweet day on marathon day for me, cheering and wishing it was me being cheered on by others all at the same time. I decided that day that yes, I needed to get off my rear and start training again.

I am lucky to have such amazing friends and a supportive hubby to boot. They all encouraged me to get back out there so this weekend I signed up to ride the 50 mile route of Pedal Through the Pines with my crew. It was a really nice ride despite my out-of-shapeness. I am still pissed that the same guy on a unicycle passed me going up hill that did last year.WTF......how lame is that on my part. But it makes me laugh and after chatting with a few other riders who share in my pain and really wanna hurl a water bottle at him as he effortlessly wheels right by us. It would be my luck that the dude would catch it and start to juggle or something.

Anyway, I hope to get better at keeping up with this dang blog since I know how much you all are dying to hear about my life:) Thanks for reading!!

Love it!......

this site is now added to the weekly checks.

Found Cameras & Orphan Pics

Birthday good times........

get your tickets....this will sell out. After Keg Ball way back on labor day I have been MIA. So much stuff has happen and event come and gone. Well it's too much to tell....buy me a beer one day and I will fill you in so on to the here and now.

For the past 4 years I take a no drinking challenge to give my liver a break and focus on the home stretch of training for the marathon. Well there is no marathon for me this season but I decided to give the body a break by doing the Master Cleanse. It was easy breezy. Drink this maple syrup, spicy lemonade mixture pretty much all day and eat NO FOOD. Bast our the pipe with a salt flush first thing in the morning( I will spare the details) and repeat.

I decided to do this for 10 days. The second day was the most difficult being that it was the LSU game and Gordon, my old boss, hosted a watching party. Being from Louisiana and alumni of LSU, Gordy went all out and had Evangaline Cafe cater. THAT SUCKED FOR ME!!! Other than that I really did not miss the food or crave much of anything. Folks at work said I was not bitchy and was really normal. What I really missed was the cold beer....is that sad?

Well I am now off the cleanse and have eaten fairly healthy since. I had about a teaspoon of sourcream last night YUM....but paid for it about 3AM this morning. OH well.....

One thing I have really been missing lately are my friend. The second family who kick my ass in running and biking. I have not been on my bike in months and I think now is the time to hop back in the saddle. I guess the urge started last week when I busted out my cycling leg warmers to layer under my sweats one morning for boot camp. Standing around in the cold telling folks what to do is way more difficult than you would think. I would much rather be working out with them some mornings. WEll....I know that I need to start getting out there again. Working out outside is far more rewarding for me. I need to learn how to just leave the clinic....the work will be there tomorrow....and start back on a regular workout routine.

I need to see my friends more socially and not just as they ride away from me on the Autobaun( they do have some nice bumms though:) so I will try to not fall off the face of the earth again too soon. I did need the break though and hanging out at home has been nice.

I also have been dedicating lots of time to planning networking events with a couple good girl friends. We had our first big event in Dec and it was a hit!! We will have our next "Show Us Your Goods" on Feb 8th at Ringers.....be there.

Okay......gotta get to work but I just had a sec to jot some stuff down. I hope to get better at blogging more often. Wish me luck.

Hello 2008

Yes, my friends, I am alive. I had Lasik 2 years ago and my vision is almost perfect. Well it is perfect compared to how incredibly BLIND I was before the first procedure.

Tomorrow I will be going back to have a touch up on my right eye to, hopefully, take me to 20/20. Right now I am about 20/25. I am really excited to see even better than I am now. This has been a HUGE challenge for me. I was thinking at first that I would give up drinking...but seriously? You all know me by now......I love a good cold beer. So, I decided to cut the sweet treats like cookies, ice cream, cake, candy etc. I have stuck with the natural sugars of fresh fruit, which I love and completely enjoy.

I have stuck to my plan so far but a couple of nights ago I had a dream......a dessert dream. I dreamt that I was.......eating cherry pie. I remember every detail of the dream. I remember saying out loud that Erin was gonna kill me for eating the pie, how it smelled, how it was nice and warm, the sweet tartness of the pie filling....ugh, I could go on and on. It was pure heaven!! I remember waking up and being so sad but glad that it was just a dream. I even fet a little guilty about the whole thing at first, how silly is that? <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_8tWXcbubaVo/RsZ0xG4gcfI/AAAAAAAAA-U/mriy2uguI6E/s320/CherryPie_468x359.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5099892015053697522" />

I really hope to make the full month. Here are a few reasons off the top of my head.

1)My husband RULES!! Not only does he tell me daily how much he loves me he shows it by picking up my drunk ass not once but TWICE this week. Once on Funday after the never-ending brunch and last night he drove home after the pub run. At lease he was already out last night and did not have to take a cab to pour me into our car to drive home. Todd RULES!!......

2)My friends RULE!! I had the best time last night at the pub run. I am so happy that I finally found a group of peeps who I mesh well with. We run, we cycle, we drink, we just have a great time whenever we are all together. Even when I busted ass last night with my face plant on 6th street they showed sincere concern after laughing their asses off as they help me up and told me to "shake it off we got drinkin' to do"

3)My new job RULES!! I limp in the clinic today to tell my story about my fall from last night. My boss insists that I get a massage......while on the clock. So at 8PM I got a massage that only cost me $20! So I am sitting here waiting for the last clients to leave and my body feels not quite as sore as it did earlier:)

4)My networking RULES!! today I got a call from a gal in California. We met about a year ago. She asked me if I would be interested in massaging backstage for ACL Fest. SWEET!! I hope all works out. She also asked me to help her cover a gig at Stubb's tomorrow night. So tomorrow evening I will be massaging Rufus Wainright and Neko Case's bands and crew. How cool is that!!??!!

Just thought I would share.......so now I am off at 10:00 to meet Todd and my great friends down at Emo's for Games and Dames.

Life is fantastic........My life RULES!!!!

Oh....here is a slide show from last nights Pub Run!!!

hello again

So I find myself with a little bit of time on my hands since my massage client did not show up for their appointment today. I am sure that some how this is my bad since I failed to confirm the appointment yesterday.

Anyway, since I have been MIA lately I thought I would use the little extra time to jot down what I have been up to. It has been one month since I started my new job. I really like my new job but it makes me sad that I am not able to workout with the group. I know that typically this means we meet, start and the fast ones leave me in the dust and wait for me at the finish:) Just getting to see and catch up with everyone makes me smile. I really had no idea how much I would miss working out a few times a week with my friends. I guess that is why I am so jazzed about Sunday.

Sunday is Katy Flatlands. Although I am not taking on the century I will still be out there for the 60-miler. I was really excited when Tim informed me that his wife, Carrie, will prolly ride a shorted distance as well. I am also proud of myself for getting off my ass this week and working out. the job transition was rough and I am ready to get back on some sort of routine. I made it out to boot camp this week. Wow....I have felt muscle aches I this in a really long time....and it feels good hurt. I did skip out on the leg workout yesterday so they would not feel like ass for the ride. I have also been on the bike and running on my own...not fun but better than sitting on my ass.

for those who do not know, my new job is with Massage Envy. I left the medical field after 9 years. WOW...what a change. It is really refreshing to be surrounded by folks who love their job and customers who are pleasant. Who could possibly be an asshole after getting a massage? The only down side is, since I am a massage therapist, I have had to cover for therapist who have not showed. I guess this is good, we did not have to turn away a client, but I can see this could potentially be taken advantage of by the staff. At least being a therapist has given me some "street cred" with the others. They now see me as one of them instead of just the new chick who is there to tell them what to do and when to do it. All in all.....love the new job.

The one really AWESOME part of my job is that I get to interview and hire all the new therapist. How do you interview a therapist....you guest it, you get a massage from them!! So far I have rec'd 3 free massages:) Also, I get $20 sessions.....this little perk makes missing my group workouts a bit easier. I think I should go ahead and book my recovery massage for after Katy when I get to work today.

Okay.....that's all for now. I will be reading ya'll blogs to keep up-to-date on what's happening out there.

Only In Friggin' Texas

are you kidding me? The alarm went off at 4:50 and I peeled myself outta bed before I had time to talk myself out of getting up. I decided to hit my friend's boot camp. My pal Stephanie is the owner of Austin Adventure Boot Camp and she is great an a complete bad ass. We barter and so I have the luxury of attending her camp for free and all I do is massage her every now and then. Gosh...I love the barter system.

This morning was really humid. We did drills......tons of running drills then a leg workout. My legs were burning and it felt good. I have not felt that burn in a long time. I did get razzed by a few of the old regulars for not being around like I was last summer. I am really glad I got outta bed this morning since I have to work until 6:30 and will miss the run workout today. I will try to tackle it on my own once I get home since there is a track down the street from my house.

Pray for me to have the fire to do this hard workout without my support crew!!!

It's been too long

I am sitting at my desk catching up on blogs before bed.

It seems that this is the month that I am cleaning house and getting things in order. First, I decided to take the stress off and focus on duathlon training instead of tri-training. I also bought a new car, got a new job, made a connection for a friend to get a new job and wrote a long over due letter to my supposed best friend. If I have bored you with the details already..sorry.

This letter was a very difficult thing for me to do and here is why. She is an alcoholic and over the past year has spiralled into a black whole of bitterness, depression and anger. She only calls me when she is drunk and says hateful things about my decisions, marriage and life. I realize that there is nothing I can do for her but I also realize that I cannot sit back to watch her self destruct. I love her, her husband and her kids but I just cannot do it. I cannot hold up both sides of our friendship any longer so I decided to write her an email after I speaking with her husband on several occasions. I am sad that it has come to this but I feel that it is what I need to do for my happiness.

All of this has made me realize how many new wonderful things I have in my life right now. I have a very supporting husband who puts up with all my training and going out, I have tons of active health friends who bring out my best. I am really thankful for Erin. She was the catalyst to my new group of training buddies and friends. It is so refreshing to have such a fantastic group of people behind me, pushing me to my limits and there to cheer me up if things are rough.

The new job is great. This has been the most stress-free first week job transition I have ever experienced. My new boss is really cool too. The only thing that makes me sad is missing my group workouts. My schedule is all over the place. some days I work early, some I close and some I am there all day with a huge 4+ hour break in the middle. I think that it will be all good once I get use to it and figure out how to rearrange my workouts. I slept in on Monday, which was really nice, but running the 7 mile loop at 9AM is pretty much torture. Working out alone is also a bummer.

I am taking my bike on for a tune up and fix tomorrow. I can't wait to ride again and it has been a week. With Katy just around the corner that makes me nervous.

All and all I have to say that despite losing all my down time and missing my workouts I am really super happy with my life right now.

My new motto.....work hard....play harder. I can't wait for the Pub Run!!!

Good days...bad days.

I had a very rough workout today. Actually, it was a tough weekend. I had a flat yesterday right before the 2nd loop on the Autobahn which sorta threw me off track. I was having a really great workout up to that point. Since it took a bit to get the tire changed I missed the 2nd 5K run. Also....why is it always the back tire that goes flat, seriously?

Well it was Erin and Kris' birthday so we all had breakfast together after the brick. Wiley even made an appearance and was bearing gifts for the birthday ladies. I learned something new about my friend Erin. She collects finger puppets. LOVE IT!!! wiley gave her 3 very cool puppets to add to her collection. Te food hit the spot and the mimosas were heaven.

Today we rode 40 miles. It took me about 2:45 to complete the ride. I had no steam today. I am really slow on the bike to begin with but today was ridiculous. I know that I just did not eat enough last night to start the morning. I did have a breakfast snack but I think going into the with not a full tank made for a tough one. It was really hot but I managed to finish. Thanks to Dave, Gina, Vivek, Dana, Scott, Arturo & Carolyn who would wait for me to catch up at several points. That was really nice of them especially where the 2 dogs were that were nippers. I was glad that I made it out despite the ride. I almost stayed home since I failed to patch my tube and did not have another spare AND my pump broke yesterday too. I am happy that I finished...."they can't all be winners kid. "

So with that done I look forward to the next week. I have one more week off of swimming. I am actually excited to get back in the pool soon to work on my swimming. My shoulder is feeling much better thanks to my acupuncturist and the PT exercises. It is also the last week at the job I have had for 8.5 years. I start my new job on the 12th. I think a HH is in order very soon. Any one care to join me?

Wow....tons of updates

So I finally am getting around to posting again. Here is the new ride:)

A Honda Element. I love it!!! I got it just in time for the Austin Triathlete Open Water Swim. I loaded her up with my massage stuff and headed out to the Dam for a day of fun and massaging tired athletes. HOORAY new for new wheels.

Last week was packed with goodness. It started Monday night with the Tool concert in SanAntonio. They rocked despite the nose bleed seats. I was just happy that they finally played their twice cancelled show.

I had my third interview with Massage Envy. I am now the new clinic admin for the Hancock....yes, I said cock, center. I accepted the job on Friday so it made for a Happy and festive weekend. I started my celebration with the Booze Cruise back to San Antonio for Todd's show with the Humiliators @ Jiggers. We had a rental van and piled in with a cooler full of fun to make the trip. It was a crazy night with many beers and lots of good music. Many thanks to Dave in the band for being the DD that night. What a trooper too. He had to be at work Sat. morning......yikes!

Saturday was another day of music, the Morrissey concert at the Backyard. That is prolly my favorite place to see a show in Austin. the show was great and opened the flood gates back to my youth. I never got the chance to see The Smiths when I was a kid so I was thrilled when I found a group of friends who were just as excited to make the show. We pre-partied at Brian's place with a very nice spread. He lives 5 miles from the venue so it was perfect. Being that I drank tons of beer the night before on the Booze Cruise i decided that I would be the DD for the night. The show was great and we danced and sang along to all the songs.

Sunday was a lazy rainy day but I managed to get out a bit to drop my massage table off at the finish for the CapTX Tri, which was cancelled. :( I was bummed that it was cancelled but I am sure those registered were even more disappointed.

Yesterday I turned in my 2 week notice to my boss. She was happy and sad for me leaving and made me cry. I am sad about leaving my job but an very excited about my new position. I have been with the same doc for almost 9 years......wow. That seems like an eternity. I am not able to share my news at work with the others until tomorrow.

The rest of the week is cake. I will be working the ROT rally all weekend. This should be interesting....bikers and chair massage. I will let you know how it goes.

Time......where does it go?

I have not posted in a while and so much has happened. It started Friday morning with a 4 mile run down at Town Lake before work. Work was work and around 2PM my friend Emma call to meet for Happy Hour. We planned on meeting at a place I have never been before, Fino. Around 4 Erin called and was hoping to find a drinking partner. Who am I to let down a friend? I logged off and headed to Freddie's for a margarita:)

I have not been to Freddie's in a while and I had forgotten how much I really enjoy sitting out on the dog-friendly yard. We ordered a couple of margaritas and enjoyed the fact that the weekend was finally here. I entertained Erin with my story of what I did for lunch, got my eyebrows threaded. I will not go into the full details but it involved knocking on a door, several random women sitting around waiting for services. Services included threading, tarot card readings and shopping for imports from India. I left there with perfectly groomed eyebrows and not smelling like Curry. Buy me a margarita and I will tell you the rest. :) Our coach, Panther, met us there too. He did not find my story as entertaining as Erin did but we had a fantastic friday wind-down none-the-less.

Time was ticking and I had to get to Fino. As soon as I hit the top of the stair case at 29th and Lamar I was please to see the nice Patio. Emma had picked the perfect happy hour spot. We sat outside and had snacks, champagne and great conversation. We were there for a couple of hours and then all headed back to our families. I had an early moring so really needed to head back to the casa to chill.

4:30am came around super early but I jumped outta bed ready to face a full day of volunteering at the Austin Cycling Association's Armadillo Hill Country Classic. Kay, of coarse, was going with me so I was looking forward to spending the day with her too. I did have a battle with y FOMO since as I saw all my fellow Camp Punishment workout buddies in their cycling gear ready to head out on the ride. We helped the riders fuel up, slather on sunscreen and fill their water bottles. Once all the riders had left Liberty Hill H.S. we me and my crew prepared for all 300+ riders to return from the various route distances. The rides came in waves the rest of the day since they offered routes from 16 to 100 miles. We made tons of PB&J and prepared a spread of nuts, cookies, fruit, crackers, sodas and water. The day was long but filled with fun and by 4PM I was forced to leave before the last rider was back in. I had family stuff to make.

I barely made it home to shower and change when Todd and Evan zipped by the house to pick me up. We headed out towards Emma Long Park for the family Mother's Day celebration. Todd's family had reserved a party boat and invited all the brothers plus family out for a mass celebration. Now, I missed this last year and the last 3 family events of Todd's so in order to keep the peace I made sure that I was there. It was a fantastic time out on Lake Austin. It was really relaxing and I was glad that I was able to make it out. We ate, had a few beers and checked out all the high dollar real estate along the shore. It was the perfect in to a very long day.

This morning I actually got to "sleep in" until 7:30:)!!! Todd and I were running in my friends Wiley and Lulu's First Annual Mother F%$kers Trail Race. The race came about last Friday when they were both ticked that the annual Mother's Day Daisy 5K was moved to Cedar Park. Really....who wants to drive to Cedar Park for a 5K? We all met on the trail ready to run and more importantly have a few beers once it was over. With such short notice we were all happy to see that we had 25 runners and one doggie entry. The race went great despite falling, we both did, but that is the name of the game with trail running.

back at the ranch it was time to take care of laundry and house stuff. I was able to squeeze in 25 miles on the trainer thanks to The Soprano's Season 3 and last weeks The Office. I did not meet my workout goals for the weekend but I am happy that I got in what I did. I am also happy that I decided to switch to Team Affliction, the duathalon training group of Camp Punishment. I decided this would be better and much less stress about my swimming since it is non-existent right now.

So that is that.....my weekend and it was wonderful.

Sad......

Every day I sit at my desk, work and listen to the radio. For those who don't know, my office is right next door to South Austin Hospital. They have done several fantastic renovations to the facility over the past 3 years or so. The latest addition is a helipad. Every few days or so I get to hear the roar of the helicopter landing just across the chain linked fence. I can see the landing from my window since the pad is in the middle of the back parking lot. I get to witness as the paramedics rush some poor person into the ER. I wonder every time what has happen? Obviously something severe enough to warrant life flight. I hope that all of these people survive but life and complications happen. I do not know how ER workers, especially the ER docs can handle seeing stuff like this day after day. I know that I am way to emotional to ever work in that sort of environment.

So they just whisked someone inside....I pray for that person.

A new cycle

Last night was the first night of a new training cycle. We had a really difficult run and I felt like I was going to hurl at one point. I am not sure if it was the heat but it was killing me. That sucks because it will only get more blistering as the summer progresses. Well the great part was that I got to visit with my friends and seeing the others suffer just as much as me makes me feel better.....misery loves company. That workout would have really been difficult if I decide to go it alone at the Crockett track.

so...I have had this friggin' headache for about 2 weeks now. It is every so dull but always there and then intensifies every day at different times. At first I thought it was just an allergy headache and maybe it is or maybe it's that I watch too much Grey's Anatomy and discovery channel and I have some weird brain disorder. If you ask my cousins it is definitely the brain disorder. I think I may make an appointment to have my head checked out because having a constant headache really sucks!!

TICKED!!

Seriously who forgets a MASSAGE appointment?!! I was not able to make Adam's core class, go swimming or ride after work yesterday due to a new massage client. I was so excited to have a new client who was referred by one of the Hill Country Inline skaters. After waiting 30 minutes and calling him I left and went to the gym to squeeze in a little sum-in for the day.

oh well......so is life right? I am finally getting a chance to jot down some stuff. This week had plenty of ups and downs. The great thing is that I met my weekday workout goals and even was over my PTTD(post traumatic tri disorder) enough to hit a swim class. Boy, that was tough. Being outta the water since the tri really was a set back for me but I am back and ready to start morning classes again.

I did caught up with Camp Punishment Wed after work and was able to do happy hour after our quality ride. It was reallly nice to see everyone. We also had the treat of trying out Miller's new beer......Chill. The Miller beer-ho was there passing out samples. Save yourself the $3.00 unless you like salty sweet crap with a beer after-taste.

I have had a few rough days at the J-O-B so I am very excited that Friday is finally here. I am loading up my SUV with my massage table and 2 cyclist and heading back to Houston for the MS150. I am excited that this will mark the 5th year with my cycling team, Team Weatherford. The riders with the team were the ones who convinced me to take up cycling, thus, started this who crazy multi-sport journey for me. I am not riding but my pals Coby, Gilbert & Rebecca will be making the trip from Houston to Austin. They were also my riding partners for the MS150 I rode last October.

I hope to make it back to Austin in time to ride with my group Sunday morning but it's gonna be a tight schedule. Plus I have to see how I feel after an all day massaging marathon. At least I will be with my good friends.......life is good.

TGIF!!! Randoments

Wed night I decided to get a massage instead of hitting my quality run with the group. My shoulders have been killing me!! Being that it was a last minute, wild hair decision, I called on of the "massage factories"(eeek!), I was desperate. I was very specific in what I needed in a therapist and to my surprise they actually came through. I was even happier when I arrived to see that it was a long lost friend. Kendra saved me and I am not sure why she is wasting her talent at this place.

Once I got home I called up my friend Kay to come over for a glass of wine and chat on the back patio. Well after a couple glasses the bottle was empty and as I got up to toss it I dropped it on my foot. @#%!* it hurt like a mother trucker and now my toe is purple and really hurts. I don't think it's broken but if it was there is nothing you can do with a broken toe except tape it and wait.

Despite my boo-boo I made the time trail last night.......crap! I am soooo slow. I can only get better though so I am not gonna sweat it right now. Driving home I called FOMO.E to make breakfast plans. I was happy when Erin agreed to meet at Mag's for breakfast.

Todd had a show last night at Head Hunters. Kay and I made it out and just in time. Due to some crappy new noise ord. outside music must stop by 11PM. So...they went on early and we missed half the show. It's all good since they have another show(which is early!!) this Sunday at Red Eye Fly. If you are free you should come out and show the love at 8PM:) After the show last night we popped over to 710. My friend Miss Maulie was over there hanging out. I was dying to chat with her to find out how her show, Games and Dames . If you have never seen top notch quality burlesque then you are totally missing out. Maulie also performed at Toddfest'06 and blew the crowd away. She is already working on her act for Todd's birthday this year.....you will not want to miss it.

Breakfast was super yummy this morning and Erin introduced me to gingerbread pancakes with bananas. MMMMMM....i am snacking on my leftovers as I type. It was nice to sit and chat since we usually see each other at workouts. I definitely think we should make breakfast once a week a requirement.

I am off to Houston this weekend for my dad's b-day. We have tickets for Cirque Soleil and I can't wait!! I just love Cirque and every performance I have seen. I will also get to see a few friends I have not seen in a long time at my friend Jimmy's b-day party tonight. Bevies and Irish Carbombs are sure to be consumed.

Have a fab weekend............

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://missychel.blogspot.com/2007/04/tgif-randoments.html' title='TGIF!!! What a fabulous treat. To top it all off Friday is my rest day as well. Once I was off work I loaded my car to head north to meet Camp Punishment for hill repeats up Mesa. Eeeeek!!

2 words.......Traffic SUCKS!! that is an understatement. Holy cow, how in the heck do folks make that commute every day. It took me almost 40 minutes to just cross the river from 360. Well, as you can guess, I was really late and just drove over to the hill....well sorta. after parking and figuring out which direction to head I found the group. I zipped down the hill......scary, and turned around to head back up. Panther gave me a few tips before leaving me in the dust. It was hard but not as torturous as I had imagined. I did 2 repeats and I felt pretty good. I know now to leave work at 4:30 to make it there on time. One scary thing was when I was driving back I noticed on the side street to the school there was an ambulance and several Texas Iron folks standing around a car. I pray that whatever happen that everyone is okay. I saw Judy out there so will have to ask her later.

I called Todd, who was at happy hour with the boss and co-workers. His boss is leaving for Singapore on Monday. Earlier Todd asked for suggestions on where to go. I suggested Doc's on Congress. I just love that place. They have a great beer selection, decent food and god people watching. The only boo is that it is not dog friendly. Well, I COMPLETELY forgot that it was First Thursday. Mobs of people where down on Congress. I was circling to find parking when it hit me......DOH! I have a bike on the back of my car:) So I parked far and rode over to Doc's in time to say Hi to everyone and wish the boss well before her trip. All was grand.

So....today I am off. I actually declined on an early morning run with Erin and the gals and slept in. I slept until 9ish. WOW!......it was heaven. I can't remember the last time I slept in that late. So I am doing house crap and will chill out the rest of the day instead of get in a workout since it is my off day. :) I feel a bit guilty not doing anything so I maybe I will go get a massage. Hey....it's an important aspect of maintaining a healthy body while training....hehehe

My first Tri............

So this past weekend I completed my first tri in Galveston, the Lonestar Triathlon. I am officially a triathlete. I am still no clear on my feelings about tri's since the race was crazy. This is how it went.

I took Friday off to head to Galveston. We had a beach house on Bermuda Beach.....it was a dump and overpriced but only 6 miles from Mood Gardens so whatever, right? I arrived in Galveston around 4, picked up the keys and met up with Maggie, Joey, Rachel Janice & Teresa at packet pick up. We wandered around checking out the event site and walked over to the swim start. It was pretty windy and you could see the current in the bay.....it made me want to throw up or cry or possibly both. Everyone was so super supportive and helpful. They are all seasoned triathletes and without their help & encouragement I would have never made it to that point.....standing there with my race packet in my hand, checking out the start.

We were starving and headed out to get dinner at the Rainforest Cafe. This was Jordan's suggestion. Jordan is Joey & Rachel's 5 year old son and a really cool kid. The wait was INSANE but we waited and finally had dinner on the table about 1:45 later. We grubbed then headed back to the houses. I was sad at that point since we were in different houses. I was by myself in our house. Coby, Gilbert, Frank & Barton would not be arriving to the house until after midnight. Todd's dad was in town so he was not able to make the trip with me and D'ann and her friends were arriving Saturday afternoon. So...there I was alone the night before my race freaking out and it was way too late to have a beer or something to chill out. I decided to watch a little tube before hitting the sack. There was a knock on the door....it was Todd. He wins the husband of the year award. I was fine....I would sleep and not freak out. He was my savior. He also stayed up to wait for the latecomers so they would not wake me up. I was really worried about that before. We talked after dinner as I drove home and he could tell that I was upset about being alone. He said that he was hitting the Supercrash show but was really about an hour away at that point. It was the best surprise ever.

My alarm went off at 5:00 AM.....it seemed so early. I hopped outta bed, got something to eat and all my race stuff together. It was time to head down to the race so I woke up Todd and the downstairs crew. They all rode separate and met me there. I called Maggie to meet up. She was amazing. She helped me set up my transition area and ave me TONS of last minutes tips. We were kicked out of the transition area and headed over to the swim start where we ran into my 2nd crew. They assured me that I was going to do great. Now.....here is the most important part that I left out. There was a severe weather warning. A HUGE string of thunderstorms blew in Friday night. The wind was strong and the sky was about to do some serious dumping on us. Before the start there was thunder but despite the weather the race went on as planned. We lined up according to our designated wave starts. Maggie stayed with me until it was time for my wave to enter the water. It was the longest, most sickening wait of my life. I felt like I was going to hurl. We slowing entered the water which was warmer than I expected(76*) and waited......I was in the very back of the wave...and we waited. It was the longest 5 minutes of my life then the horn blew. We started to swim. Oh, I forgot to mention, it was my first time to swim in open water too. The water was salty, choppy and overall pretty icky to swim through. It was definitely different. I was having difficulty sighting the buoy and boat land mark and I kept drifting way off track. I was in the water for close to 30 long horrible minutes which seemed a lifetime. I was kicked, swam over sucked in salt water and hit as the wave behind me caught up and passed me. I kept moving forward and the side stroke was my best friend. I could site better doing that over the crawl. At one point I almost freaked out but knew that the water angels where there on their surf boards watching me and keeping me on track. I finally hit the huge orange buoy.......literally. I swam right into it and made the gal sitting there chuckle. I could see the flags to stand up and I was never so happy to stop doing something. I felt the carpet under my feet and stood up making sure not to stand too soon and hit the oyster beds below. Oh....I forgot to mention that during the swim it started to drizzle a bit...that was really reassuring know that at any second I could be struck by lightening.

So....I was finally out of the water and I walked, no not run, until it finally sunk in that I was out of the water to the stripping station. I had taken my wetsuit off down to the waist. At that point I saw my crews, my peeps, my support team. It was nice to hear them yelling out my name and it helped me snap out of the PTSD of the swim. I plopped on the ground and before my but was completely down the volunteers had grabbing the suit and peeled it off in once swoop. I was up and ran to T1 for my bike. I could tell that the temp had dropped while I was in the water and the wind had picked up. The front was here and rain was coming any minute. I remembered what Erin kept telling me, "be sure to eat ", so I did after strapping on my helmet and shoes to head out for the bike. It was windy and once we were on the seawall even it was even stronger. It was a cross wind too so there would be no benefits of a tail wind. The bike was flat, which was nice but the cross wind was strong. It felt like it could just push me over at some points. I kept a steady pace although it was a bit slow due to the wind. About a mile left on the bike and it started to rain....no, that is an understatement, it started to DUMP water monsoon style. It was pouring down rain and I could barely see, it was cold and hurt when it hit my skin. It felt like needles as it came down. It slowed me down to a crawl since I was worried about crashing since I could barely keep my eyes opened from the rain. WOW......that was a challenge. As I turned back into the complex I saw Rachel, standing there in the rain. She was cheering for me drenched from head to toe. She also reported that Joey was waiting on the other side of the run start with a hat for me to wear!! YEAH!!!

I made it back to T2 and there was my stuff in a huge lake of water& stuff floating all over the place. I changed shoes, chugged a bit of e-load and took off for the run. As I left the trans area I saw Todd and my friends. They said I looked great...they are such fantastic liars but it was nice to have then there. As I turned the first curve there was the Austin Tri gang under a shelter. As I ran by Joey caught up to me with a hat. It was like he handed me a winning lotto ticket. As soon as I put on my magic hat all was good in the hood. I could see and the stinging rain was off my face....life was good again. The run took us all through the Moody Garden complex and the Arc that was being built:). There was a nice 4-6 inches of water to face along the entire route. My shoes felt like lead but I felt good. Running is my comfort leg of the event. It was an easy 5K and I knew that I would be done with the whole thing in less than an hour. As I was winding and sloshing to the end there were small groups of soaking wet volunteers. I made sure to thank them as I went by. I was happy to see, Judy, the ultimate cheer leader out there with the Texas Iron group. As I ran I was thankful that I had run with the Hill Country Trail runners in the past. Running through water was nothing new for me so I kept on running despite passing several people who were walking. I just wanted to get it over and get out of the rain. I also thought about the Austin Fit 21-miler 2 years ago. It poured rain the entire 21 miles so this was cake. I could see the finish line and tried to pick it up a bit at the end to cross the finish line. It was a quite finish since it was raining so hard but, the husband of the year, Todd, was there to cheer me on as well as Joey, Maggie, Teresa, Rachel, Janice and Jordon. I was never so happy finish something and wanted to just hug the volunteer who handed me a soaking wet towel and water bottle. Unfortunately, due to the weather, I have no pics to share. As soon as the official pics are up on the site I will post some photos I remember seeing them out there under a few shelters.

Times: Swim- 26.27
Bike- 51.07
Run- 32.49

Total event: 1:56

My first thought was, " I am NEVER friggin' doing this again", but due to being a victim of F.O.M.O. & a few days to forget, I am ready to start training for the next event. I know I need to seriously work on my swimming form, breathing on BOTH sides and a few other things. Despite my text message to my coach, Panther, that I am sticking to Du's, I will take on one more because I have faced the worst possible race conditions. It can only get better from here.

One last thing...the thank you's. I am so blessed to have an army of people behind me. They have been encouraging, supportive, helpful beyond belief and overall kick-ass friends. There are way too many of you but you know who you are. We swim, we ride, we drink, we run, we die together in the Jack & Adam's core class, we drink, we dance on bar tops, we train until we feel like we are gonna barf and basically have a blast during it all. I am so glad to have you all in my life and behind me 100%. I would not have been able to tackle my first tri with out you guys. You are amazing friends......THANK YOU!!!!

Just stuff

This is my horoscope for today:

PISCES - You have creative talent, although it is possible that you have not yet found the best way to express it. If you are too easily distracted by a variety of conflicting possibilities, you will find it difficult to fulfill your potential. Use your intuition to focus on endeavors that offer a real chance to accomplish your ambitions.

I find this to be very true. I have been easily distracted lately and staying focused has been a challenge. I feel that I am on the right track but for some reason have a constant feeling that I should be doing more.....I just don't have the time. Most of my friends think that I am out of my mind. I am asked all the time how do I do all that I do. I be honest....I don't know, I just do things that make me happy.

I started my week out great. Erin and I went for an early morning 7 mile run. I was so thankful that she wanted to meet. If not I prolly would have stayed in bed after too many mimosas on Sunday. I felt great!

The weekend was also really good. It was a mellow stay at home weekend with one really good brick on Sunday, 30 on the bike and 3 run. I felt good on the bike even though Erin completely smokes me. I kept a constant pace for the run...about a 10ish pace. I am really stoked about how good I felt after our workout. 2 weeks in a row of successful bricks has given me a bit more confidence for the 31st.

I am still freaked about the swim. I had a great workout this morning with Meredith. I tried to remember all the tips from the stoke demo that I went to on Sunday. Gosh....it is so much to think about that I can't wait for the day that it all just "clicks". I am actually starting to enjoy my swim class and know that I at least know I can stay afloat long enough to get the swim down for the sprint. It will not be pretty but who cares.

New kid in town.......

So, I am officially an aunt. I was really glad that I was able to scrape myself outta bed. Yesterday I got back in the saddle after getting over Monday night out with a run workout. I had my 2 mile time trial and was pretty happy with my time. I am a VERY slow runner and was able to do 2 miles in 17:55:15. I was stoked and cannot wait for the next one to see how I improve.

I am sooo lucky to live in such a great city to enjoy all the activities that I do these days. I remember living in Houston and how there is really no decent/safe place to run for a girl running solo outside. Not to mention all the swimming, rowing and cycling possibilities here. I remember how I use to to be....a major slug. I would be getting home at 5AM after a night working the bar and now...here I am waking up at that time or a bit earlier to make my 6AM swim class. Funny how things change and I LOVE it.

Tonight we ride.......no telling what Panther has in store for us but I am sure it will kick my ass. I am looking forward to it. :)

First post in FOREVER!!

Well the first week of my training with my new multisport coach,Panther and Camp Punishment is almost at a close. I think I have found my haven. Joining fellow F.O.M.O.'s for weekly training torture is my idea of a god time!! I owe all my tortured pleasure to my good friend Erin. Thanks Erin for being such a great friend and inspiration.

The week started off with a 4.5 mile run and Jack & Adam's core class monday after work. HOLY COW!!!!...that core class kicks my ass. I need serious help with the mid-drift before bikini season. I met Coby there and that was a nice treat to see her. She is amazing. Anyone who can hold plank for an eternity is just not human.

Tuesday was my early AM swim. Swim was pretty decent. I am gettting better but have a long way to go. We did bouy work which feel ,and I am sure look, completely retarded doing. Swim is my weakest leg of the tri BUT!!!! I will not give up.

Wed was our quality run. We did drills and 200's @ 10K pace......aka......you should not be able to chit-chat. My favorite part of the workout were the 12oz curls at Aussie's once we were done
Thrus was our quality bike ride. We met at Runtex and headed out to 360 for 45 minutes to return. Man....that was STRESSFUL. I was actually not the slowest person out there...for a change. There were a few brand newbies too and naturally my coach instincts kicked in and took them in. I rember the fear of my first ride on 360 and that was on a quiet weekend morning. The traffic was insane but we all made it back to Runtex in one piece.

This weekend I ride with Erin and Rebecca.....and swim. then have some fun too!!! All and all it was a great week!!

So....it is the second week of 2007. After getting more invovled and getting to know more folks in the Austin Tri scene I decided to bite the bullet and attempt my first sprint this spring, in Galveston.
